Note: Enrollment is currently at maximum capacity. We are now adding names to our waiting list. If you are interested please send your name and phone number to grew_sheridan@mac.com and note your interest in enrolling with a response to the questions listed below. You will be contacted as space becomes available.
Thank you for your interest in woodworking. Please visit a class if you have a moment and introduce yourself. If you would like to have your name added to or continue on the waiting list please give me some information about yourself. The selection for the classes is competitive, as is continuing once enrolled. The shop has limited benches and space. I would like to know about:
- your education,
- your employment,
- your tuiton level on the sliding scale,
- your preferred class,
- your training in design,
- your experience with crafts, arts or other expressive skills,
- your expectations of what the shop could offer you and finally,
- your plans, if any, for the designing and making of objects in the future.
Once accepted on the waiting list you will be able to join at any time that space is available; fees will be prorated. No particular background or experience is required as the class is a mixture of experienced and beginning students, but a dedication to and serious interest in the class is required. If space is available you will be asked to choose a class time slot and to select the appropriate tuition level. Once enrolled, before you begin attending regular classes, there is an individual Introduction to Wood as a Material and to the shop machinery. This will be scheduled directly with John on an as needed basis. The following are required and/or helpful for the first introductory session:
- Proof of medical coverage is required.
- The Introduction, history textbook, and handouts cost $60 and this and $200 toward the tuition, are due at the introduction.
- A folder or binder for handouts and sketches is suggested.
- A personal sketchbook or notebook is invaluable for drawings and notes.
The tools listed on the "Tools" page are not required for the first session. Additional information about this personal tool kit will be provided.
Thank you and best wishes. John Sheridan
